Applications
Who can apply?
Anyone aged 18 or over, from any country, who is already helping other people grow: students, young professionals, founders, community organisers, mentors and educators. You do not need a title. You need a record of taking initiative and a clear idea of who you will pass the flame to.
When do applications close?
Applications close on 15 January 2027. We review them as they arrive, and send every decision by 5 February 2027.
How long does the application take?
About 45 minutes. It has six short steps and saves as you type, so you can stop and come back on any device.
Can I apply for a funded place and still be considered for self-funded?
Yes. Choose the place you want, and tick "I am open to another place" on the last step. If the funded places fill up, we can offer you a different one.
Do I need a project?
You need an idea, not a finished project. Tell us about a real problem in your community and the first step you would take. Linking it to one of the Sustainable Development Goals helps reviewers understand it.
Who reads my application?
At least two reviewers score it with the same rubric. They do not see your name, email or country while scoring, so every applicant is judged on what they wrote.
Payment
What does the application fee pay for?
The US$19 application fee covers processing and review by at least two reviewers. It is non-refundable, including if you are not selected.
How much does each place cost?
Fully funded: nothing beyond the application fee. Partially funded: a US$150 commitment fee when you accept, plus your own flights. Self-funded: the US$650 event pass (US$590 before 31 January 2027), plus your own flights.
What does the event pass include?
Your hotel for the summit nights, meals in the official programme, the full programme, airport transfers in Kuala Lumpur and a city tour. Flights and visas are not included.
How do I pay?
By card, on Stripe's secure page. Card details never touch our website. You get a receipt by email straight away, and can download a PDF receipt from your portal.
How long do I have to accept an offer?
14 days from the date of the offer. After that, the place goes to the next person on the waitlist.
Can I get a refund?
The application fee is non-refundable. The commitment fee and event pass are partly refundable depending on when you cancel, and fully refundable if your visa is refused. The Refund Policy has the details.
I am a Campus Director or OPPNERGY member. Is there a waiver?
Yes. Enter the waiver code you were given on the last step of the form, and the fee is reduced or removed before you pay.
Visas
Do I need a visa for Malaysia?
Many nationalities can enter Malaysia without a visa for a short stay; others need an eVisa. Check the official Malaysian government eVisa site for your passport before you book flights.
Will you send an invitation letter?
Yes. As soon as you have an offer, you can download an official invitation letter from your portal. Fill in your passport details first so the letter matches your passport.
How long must my passport be valid?
At least six months after the day you arrive in Malaysia, with two blank pages.
What happens if my visa is refused?
Send us the refusal letter and we refund your commitment fee or event pass in full.
Travel
Which airport should I fly into?
Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL). Our team meets delegates there on arrival day and takes you to the hotel.
When should I arrive and leave?
Arrive on Monday 22 March and leave on Thursday 25 March 2027. Add your flight times in the portal so we can plan your transfer.
Will I share a room?
Most delegates share a twin room with another delegate of the same gender. You can tell us who you would like to room with in your travel details.
What is the weather like in March?
Hot and humid, around 24 to 33°C, with short afternoon showers. Bring light clothes, an umbrella and a layer for air-conditioned rooms.
On-site
How does check-in work?
Show the QR code on your e-badge at the registration desk and at each session. It records your attendance, which is what earns your certificate.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes, if you check in at registration and attend at least 3 sessions. Each certificate has a QR code anyone can scan to confirm it is genuine.
What should I wear?
Smart casual for the programme days. Bring one formal outfit for the closing ceremony and awards.
What is the Pass the Flame commitment?
Before you leave Kuala Lumpur, you commit to one concrete thing you will do in the next 90 days to help others grow. We check in with you at 30, 60 and 90 days.
